Open Tracker APRS and Deluo GPS Installation on a Trek 7.6FX
(7 May 2007)
Here are some photos of my Open Tracker APRS installation on a 2007 Trek 7.6FX bicycle. I used this combination during the 2007 Lincoln (Nebraska) Marathon.
Here is the 5 watt FT-60R HT on 144.39 with SMA to UHF adaptor. The battery (from an old IC-2AT) is used to power the Open Tracker and Deluo GPS. The 2 lb. polyester foam is used to keep things from moving around inside the pack, and to keep the single-plug speaker/mic cable from coming loose.
This image shows the radio & battery inside the bike pack, mounted on a rear rack of the Trek 7.6FX. The short coax cable from the 1/4 wave antenna is routed through a hole cut in the expansion area between the 2 zippers of the pack.
This image shows the closed pack with the wires routed to the Open Tracker unit which is mounted on the top tube with plastic tie wraps. This was rain-proof, as it survived about 1/4" inch of rain during the Marathon this year.
This image shows the Deluo GPS puck mounted on a metal bracket (magnetic) mounted to the braze-on on the front fork. The extra cable length is coiled up and tie-wrapped to the top tube.
This image shows the Open Tracker mounted on the top tube. I would have liked to mount it farther forward, however it may have interfered with the brake and gear wires. When in shade, I can look down and see the flashing red LED in the Open Tracker unit. The OT unit was wrapped in plastic to protect from rain during this year's Marathon.
